with a photo of Major Isaac Lewis
Quotes from some of the articles:
"The gun was made primarily for Infantry and Cavalry use.  Later however, Colonel Lewis was imprest with its possibilities for us in aeroplanes."
"A 1912 magazine article concerns machine gun inventor Isaac N. Lewis and his machine gun, the Lewis gun. The Lewis Gun played a major roll during the First World War, having been purchased in large quantities by the British/Commonwealth armies. Written just two years prior to the slaughter, this article is about U.S. Army experiments with the Lewis Gun when it is mounted on aircraft. As the article makes clear,
the Lewis Gun was the first machine gun to have ever been fixed to a plane
    ."
    "The
most successful early light machine gun
was the Lewis, invented in 1911 by Colonel Isaac N. Lewis of the U.S. Army."
Written on back of photo and then typed on piece of additional paper that came with photo:
"Graduating Class of Engineers, Coastal Artillery School, Ft. Monroe, VA, 1909"
We purchased this and other items from a relative of "ORVILLE K. McCOMBS", who is standing in photo on the far left.  We have other papers/photos of McCombs as well.  If you are interested, please email me.
    Photo measures approximately:
    7.5"  x   6.75"
    Condition:
There are light scratches in various places on the photo, but they can only be seen when photos is placed at an extreme angle with light hitting it.  No tears/creasing anywhere.  I really do not know what this type of photo board is called.  Images of the men are very clear.  Original owner had this glued on something--can still see the glue remnants on back.
